Where stories shimmer with truth and passion.
Welcome to the creative home of Kiva Wolfe, the literary alter ego of author Rita Hanner-Ward.
Here, imagination meets emotion, and every story reveals a spark of humanity.
Discover her latest works, updates, and creative projects—including the newly reimagined novel Red Flash, a tale of power, love, and transformation.

Rita Hanner-Ward, who originally published Red Flash under the pseudonym Kiva Wolfe, enjoyed a vibrant career as a museum curator, pioneering interpretive exhibits and hands-on learning. She later worked as a fundraising consultant and media relations specialist, contributing writing and photography to the Thornton Quarterly magazine. A selfproclaimed gemstone junkie, she now resides in Arizona, where she divides her time between clay hand-building, volunteering, and the antics of her incorrigible dog, Zorro. She is currently wrapping up two newwriting projects: Tears of lemanjá, the long-awaited sequel to Red Flash, and a third novel-the first in a planned three-book mystery series written under the pseudonym Luiza Cady. Both titles are slated for release in 2026. Between novels, she writes poetry that explores memory, grief, and redemption with lyrical grace. A collection of her poems is also in the works.

In the conflicted world of precious gemstones and diamonds, no one is who they seem to be…
When a dashing former triathlete learns the Russian Mafia killed his nephew, he stumbles upon a gem smuggling scheme involving his older brother, the Red Mafia, and a powerful Brazilian criminal organization.
From Denver’s historic Capitol Hill to the far reaches of the Amazon, mayhem and double crosses abound in this smart, sexy, and suspenseful adventure about an immigrant family’s lust for gems and the rumored discovery of a fabled red diamond. Murder, obsession, betrayal, and a missing shipment of rare Brazilian tourmalines will rip a family’s fragile bond and push two brothers to the edge. Everyone wants to steal these valuable gemstones – someone who will kill to do it and some who will die trying.
When I first wrote Red Flash, I didn’t realize how deeply it would stay with me, the shimmer of gemstones, the pulse of danger, the ache of love that cannot be tamed. The story began as a whisper in the jungle and grew into a tale about power, redemption, and the hidden fire within us all.
Set between the raw wilderness of Brazil and the glittering streets of Denver, Red Flash follows the Stanovic family, a dynasty built on the brilliance and deception of precious gems. Beneath the sparkle lies betrayal, forbidden desire, and the question every heart must face:
How far would you go to claim what you believe is yours?
This novel is both a thriller and a reckoning. It explores what happens when we treat love like a commodity and discover that the real fire, the true “red flash”, burns within.
Whether you’re returning to the story or discovering it for the first time, I invite you to step inside this world of light and shadow. Explore the characters, the jewels, and the secrets they keep.
It is a story that gleams, cuts, and ultimately heals.
With gratitude,
Kiva Wolfe
Author of Red Flash
In Tears of Iemanjá, Dominick returns to Brazil chasing a ghost and a promise. A cryptic message suggests that Mala — the woman he lost, the woman he loved — may still be alive. But their reunion is fraught with danger: she is pregnant, trapped in a marriage of convenience, and under the watchful eye of her brother Orlando, a rising force within the ruthless Filhos de Santos syndicate. To save her, Dominick must resume his failed quest for a legendary diamond and venture once more into the unforgiving Amazon, where old enemies hunt him, and the truth behind the missing tourmalines threatens to ignite a war.
Whether you are a happy homemaker or surly construction worker, Red Flash has something for you in this engrossing story of international gem dealing, or should I say "gem swindling", and organized crime. Kiva Wolfe masterfully guides her readers through an intriguing world filled with captivating characters, precious gems and far-flung locales. Red Flash is as hot as its title -- a highly entertaining, suspenseful and promising first effort. I look forward to reading the sequel.
I so enjoyed the interesting cast of characters and peculiar pets. Kiva Wolfe's witty sense of humor and ability to believably shift from one character to the next held me throughout the story. The author knows her gems, and while I basked in the Brazilian settings, my primary peeve was the cliffhanger ending. Yet, it hooked me, and while I, and her many other readers, will have to wait for the sequel to find out what happened, we're left looking forward to more from this author.
Red Flash kept me up at night, turning the pages to see what twists await. From the first chapter, Wolfe leads the reader into a tantalizing world of gems, betrayal, sex and secrecy--all great ingredients for a truly absorbing novel. The one complaint? A nerve-wracking cliffhanger at the end! Can't wait for the sequel to this smart and well-written mystery.
